Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas, with endorsement from the Ontario government have partnered to launch this new program, to help Ontarians improve their home efficiency and comfort.

Starting January 28th 2025, all homeowners in Ontario will be eligible to receive up to $10,000 in grants!

HOW IT WORKS
STEP 1
Book an energy audit
with one of Greenbrain's registered Energy Advisors,
prior to making any upgrades to your home.

STEP 2
Complete at least two upgrades
recommended from your energy evaluation report.

STEP 3
Book a post-retrofit audit within 180 days of your initial audit
once all of your upgrades have been completed.

Receive your rebate cheque
inclusive of up to $600 back towards the cost of your energy audit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What is the maximum rebate that I can get?
- If your home is primarily heated by Enbridge natural gas, you can qualify to get a rebate of up to $5,000.
- If your home is primarily heated by Electricity, you can qualify to get a rebate of up to $10,000.
- If your home is primarily heated by Oil or Propane, you do not qualify for a rebate at the moment, but these two options will likely be added to the program towards the end of Q1 2025.

2. Do I get a rebate back for the cost of my energy audit?

Yes, you will receive a rebate of $600 back towards the cost of your energy audit once you complete both your first and second audit, and complete a minimum of 2 eligible upgrades.

​3. What are the rebates for insulation upgrades that will allow me to get up to $7,700 back?
- Attic (up to $1,500)

Basement (up to $2,300)

Exterior Wall (up to $3,600)

Exposed Floor (up to $300)

​4. ​If I insulate my basement walls and basement header does that count as 1 or 2 measures towards the 2 measure minimum the program requires?

Foundation headers are not eligible to count as a qualified measure but can qualify for a rebate when done in combination with crawl space wall or basement wall insulation.​

5. What are the rebates for window and door upgrades?
-
Windows qualify for a rebate of $100 per rough opening (not per window). Installed windows MUST be ENERGY STAR rated, and must replace non-ENERGY STAR windows. Additionally, when installing windows and/or doors, a second measure must also be completed such as insulation, air sealing, etc.

6. If I want to replace my windows, can I replace just one?

A minimum of 3 windows, or 1 door, or 1 skylight, or 1 sliding door are required to be upgraded to qualify for a rebate and will count as 1 qualified measure. For clarity, replacing only 1 or 2 windows with an ENERGY STAR certified model will NOT count as a qualified measure, or qualify for a rebate. Replacing already existing ENERGY STAR certified model windows/doors will also not qualify.

7. If a customer participated in the previous HER or HER+ program, do they still qualify for a rebate through this new program?

Yes, but a new set of audits would be required, and the customer would be eligible to receive up to $5,000 inclusive of up to $600 towards there audit cost. However, any upgrades where a rebate was previously received would not qualify.

8. How long will this new HER program run for?

Until December 31, 2027 or once funding runs out. Whichever comes first.

9. Do rental properties or second properties qualify?

Yes, rental and secondary properties qualify.

​10. Do heat pumps qualify for a rebate?
-
Yes, heat pumps do qualify for a rebate of up to $7500 for a cold climate Air Source Heat Pump, or $12,000 for a ground source heat pump. Heat pumps but do not require an energy audit in order to receive a rebate.

11. Do solar panels qualify for a rebate?

Yes, roof top solar panels qualify for a rebate of up to $5,000 ($1,000 per KW), and battery back-up systems qualify for a rebate of up to $5,000 ($300/kWh) for new systems only. Net metered installations DO NOT qualify. Solar rebates do not require an energy audit in order to receive a rebate.

12. How long do I have to complete my upgrades?

Once you complete your initial energy audit, you have 180 days to complete all of your upgrades and your final energy audit. However, if you cannot complete all upgrades within the 180 days due to delays beyond your control (i.e. product delays, contractor delays, etc.) please give us a call so that we can determine if an extension may be granted.
